As a parent of teenagers, it's natural to feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells. But when those moody moments strike, you can always turn to your furry friend for a reminder that not all is lost. A simple pat on the head will have your dog wagging their tail with joy, bringing a little sunshine to your day. And while your teenager may be too busy being cool and aloof to talk to you in person, a quick text from school about their lunch preferences can be a reassuring sign that you're still on their radar.
But parenting teenagers isn't all about the ups and downs. There are also moments of absurdity, like trying to find the perfect amount of Axe Body Spray to avoid being labeled "uncool" or accidentally causing a chemical explosion in the bathroom. And even though your teenager may act like they're too cool for affection, a well-timed hug or forehead kiss can go a long way in reminding them of your bond.
When your teenager is holed up in their room binging on their latest obsession, you can always try changing the Netflix password to encourage some face-to-face time. And even the smallest acts of kindness, like letting you know when the junk food supply is running low, can be a reminder that your teenager is paying attention and wants to help out.
But no matter how well you think you know your teenager, a text asking when you and your spouse will be home can still make you nervous. It could be anything from a request for a ride to soccer practice to an unexpected surprise party. Parenting teenagers is a never-ending game of guessing, but it's also a lot of fun (most of the time). So embrace the chaos and enjoy the journey of raising your teenager."
